You're here to see what I'm going to announce - aren't cha?

I know, I'm such a tease.

Well, first I got a little letter, and I was apprehensive. Cause little letters aren't good.....

So I looked anxious and said, "That's it?" as Terrance handed me...

A big Envelope. Which held.....

My acceptance letter.

And there was much rejoicing..

Because there is always time for Monty Python.

And (Drumroll continues.....) My ClubMom site is up. It will start getting promoted on Monday, so you can all be the official first commenters on the hottest piece of Mom blog ass this side o' the Mississippi. Well, that and I'm going to be paid by how many hits I get, so spread it around N'k? Cause I've quit my job as of June 16th and this Mama needs a new non-company owned laptop with Wifi.

I have to say, I am in a great group of ladies in this "Brave New ClubMom World", as sweetney put it. (I then congratulated her on allowing me to pull an Aldous Huxley reference out of my ass. Cause nothing perks up the day like underused literary references, I say.) Amy of Amalah is the Supreme Overlord Blog Mommy, Kristen of Motherhood Uncensored, Jenn, Nina, Jenny, Amanda, Grace, Linda and Lena are all on board, so it is sure to make for some interesting, funny, thought provoking reading. (Watch us all try not to swear)

So the new blog is here:

http://gimleteye.clubmom.com

And get it? The Gimlet Eye? Baleful Regards? HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA. I do so make myself laugh.

Tomorrow? Gnomes. That's all I have to say.

Oh Yeah, I'm Back...

And to prove I am back, and bet-tah than before. I give you a photo taken in Emily's room.

I'm even giving you this post early as the Friday post as a token of my deep and everlasting appreciation..

((Oh, and big news to be announced on Saturday on this blog. And no. I ain't pregnant. You all read the ball icing peas stories, Come ON!))

So without further ado, I present.......

Today I let go of my pain. I forced myself to focus on Now and not the unchangeable past, or unknowable future. Now.

Energy calls out for other like energy. If you are in a shitty mood, eventually everyone else will be too. Your decision to change your energy can have vast impact on not only yourself, but others around you.

My Pain-body has been in control of my life for about six weeks now. This isn’t depression – different feel entirely. Believe me, I know. My Pain-body sensed an opportunity and, as is it’s nature, leapt at it. By keeping me focused on the past and future, I was paralyzed to attend to now.

The pain-body likes pain. It feeds on pain. It wants to stay alive so it looks to create feeding opportunities. Mine created a hell of an opportunity. It has gorged itself for six weeks.

Until today, when I finally – FINALLY – understood what this was about. Yeah, I know what my therapist said and Yes, she was right, but until I “got it”, I couldn’t get it. My life is going…beautifully. I mean – Duh, right? Accepted to a PhD program? Paid to blog? WTF, Dude?

“Oh No”, said the Dawns pain-body. “Now is the time to remind her about the last time she felt really awful”, it thought casting around for the right trigger. Once found, it latched onto it. “Feeling too successful is Bad. Feeling too good is bad…Must…create…chaos…to…divert”, said Dawns Pain body.

And it did. Chaos that I haven’t seen in years. Shit loads of Chaos. So much, I couldn’t recognize the person I was at that time. She was someone I had not seen in a long time. She does things that Dawn would never, ever do. Like drink a bottle of wine on a Sunday night.

In a last ditch attempt to re-focus myself from doing this PhD program, moving to a city that I love, my mind created needs and wants that weren’t real. Not hallucinations but feelings.

People who live in their pain-body? Addicts. Pick an addiction and you’ll see a person who is avoiding their life now. I started acting like a junkie, looking for the next score, chasing the high that they once had a long time ago.

That’s who I’ve been. It’s sickened me, literally. I tried to purge with extra long sessions of yoga, punishing myself to the point of exhaustion. I’d stopped eating. I’d stopped sleeping. I couldn’t meditate. I just wanted to chase the high. I had it once and I could have it in the future, if I just ignored now. “Come on Dawn – hurts so good”, whispered my pain-body.

I won’t lie, I followed. Willingly, happily, complicity. This Sunday, the true Dawn popped out and gave Pain-body Dawn a real kick ass dressing down. Ergo the bottle of wine. By Wednesday, Pain Body Dawn was in withdrawal mode. Twitching, crying, pleading for something – anything – just feed it. You don’t need pride. You don’t need intelligence. Just give in. Get the high.

Today, I woke up. I looked at the shell that Pain Body Dawn has left and thought, “Thank god, that’s over.” I actually felt her lift from me today. It was glorious.

“Welcome back”, I said to me. “You’ve got some work to do now…”

I have a feeling I will sleep tonight.

Terrance:(in living room , on couch) "Honey, Bring me the glasses thingy"

Me:(at computer in bedroom) "What?"

Terrance: "The glasses thingy - bring it to me.."

Me: "The glasses thingy?"

Terrance: "Yeah, the things for the glasses"

Me: "Are you asking for Lens cleaners?"

Terrance: "Bring me the glasses thing - you know the things for the glasses"

Me: "Are you referring to Lens Cleaner?"

Terrance: "Yeah, the stuff for the glasses.."

Me: "Do you mean the Lens Cleaner?"

Terrance: "Dawn, stop playing, bring me the stuff - the thing for the glasses.."

I rise and walk the 15 steps from the bedroom to the living room. I am holding the box clearly labeled "Lens Cleaners".

Me: "Are you referring to these Lens Cleaners?"

Terrance: "Yes, just give me one of the damn things.."

Me: "I'd be happy to get a lens cleaner for you."

I hold the box like Vanna White. I smile. I pose.

Terrance: "You're such a smart ass."

Epilogue et al.

Tuesday, May 09, 2006

So On Monday, I went to work. Yes. Hungovah as Hizz-ell. This is not a state I frequent at the age of 36, and I looked every bit as bad as you think. I actually did take some pictures for you. Cause I'm all about the transparency, baby.

People avoided me, as I looked like the first US carrier of bird flu. I drank coffee and water and ate my Advil liquigels like the manna from heaven they are. I nearly fell asleep at my desk at about 3:30.

I drove home at 4:30. I arrived at 5:30. Cause I work 28 miles away. I parked the car in the driveway. I was annoyed because my spouse had parked the damned Mercedes Square in the MIDDLE OF THE DRIVEWAY. There is, in my opinion, no reason for this. There is plenty of space to park two cars, side by side. I have to pull up as close as I can so the ass of my car doesn't poke out into the street. This makes Hulk ANGRY..

I stumble into the house. I take more Advil and water. I go lay down. Terrance comes in and says "You want anything from the store?"

I stare at him. Balefully.

"You're gonna have to take my car - cause you took all the room in the driveway and I had to park behind you".

My wifely rattle is going off. Back away Cowboy! Tuck your pants into your boots!

He leaves. He returns. I've not moved. He storms into the bedroom.

"OHMYGOD! DID YOU NOTICE THAT YOU HAVE NO BRAKES? YOU HAVE NO BRAKES? DIDN'T YOU NOTICE? AND ANTIFREEZE! YOU'VE GOT NO ANTIFREEZE OR BRAKE FLUID! DON'T YOU CHECK THESE THINGS?"

"I have brakes. They were braking the whole way home without trouble.."

"NO YOU DON'T - DIDN'T YOU NOTICE HOW SOFT THEY WERE?"

I now begin to stare at him. In earnest. He rants. He raves. He gesticulates wildly.

I maintain my icy, hungover silence. The full Baleful regard is in effect. We've been down this road before....

Which he seems to finally notice. And stops.

"Oh. Yeah. OK. Why don't you take the Mercedes to work tomorrow and I'll get your car filled up, the oil changed and topped off."

Wise man. Stop poking at her with the stick. Nothing good can come of it.

************************************************************************************

And now, cause I L-O-V-E you all so much- Here they are. The post Sunday night photos.

Believe it or not, this isn't even the full "Look" - It can get much, much worse.

And then I had to stop at Walmart to buy the supplies....

Come to me, beautiful...

Chickens roosting in my house. Snarky Chickens.

Sunday night, I am getting dinner ready. No, not cooking - just putting things on plates. Geesh, I hadn't had the bottle of wine YET!

Emily: "Mama - um....look."

Me: "What babe?"

Emily "Your pants..."

Me "What, is there something on my bum?"

Emily "No, it's your shirt..."

Me (twisting to see) "Is there something on my shirt?"

Emily (sighing) "No, I can see your underwear. You need to pull your shirt down. It's not appropriate, Mama."

I have been called out by my daughter in my house for the whale tail.

Oh yeah baby. I may drink a bottle of wine on a work night. I may swear creatively. I may spend her college fund on shoes and Gorillez CD's, but dammit. She can spot a fashion faux pas at a million yards.

Go, grasshopper. You have surpassed your teacher.

In which Dawn gets spectacularly drunk and blogs-

Sunday, May 07, 2006

Oh Deary, deary dear. I have taken a photo essay in which I consume the whole bottle of wine and then blog about it.

Dawn is feeling good. Good with the aid of a bottle of good Spanish wine. White, if you must know.

All right. So I spontaneously decided the drink the whole bottle of wine. None of your damn business. But at least you get to reap the benefits.

Here I am at 7 p.m. Yeah. I tried to gnaw the cork off of the bottle. I mean, I got it off once. Why can't I get it off again? Apparently, my teeth aren't made for this task...
-

And then I show you my attempts to get the rest of the cork out of the bottle.
Sigh.

OK - here is the 3rd glass of good Spanish wine. Full. Mmmmm. You are my friend Spanish wine.

And then I decide to pay tribute to my girlfriends. Who, frankly, are the balls. I mean, they give me this shit....Yeah. It says "Most Likely to Succeed" -What of it Bitch? And this..

Yeah, it is the Ganagsta Rap coloring book. What of it? Props to my be-yotch Leah and Denise.

And then, what next?

Yeah, I take a look to see how much wine is left. I estimate a glass and a half.

I think that will take me about 46 minutes to get down.

Did I mention that I am pretty sure that wine has ALL of your vitamins and minerals?

That glass looks lonely. Should it be refilled?

Oh, Shit yeah...

Hmmm, here is Dawn, downing the glass. Delici-ou-sess.

Go Dawn, Go!

Again. Why does Dawn need to get drunk tonight? None of your damn business. Just enjoy her ability to make a spectacle of herself...
Dawn Goes outside to enjoy her last glass..

The loons are singing. She is drinking the last of the bottle.

Salute!

Dawn looks at the night sky...

and Ponders her existence. The Desert. Straws. Firefly. John Mayer's
"Your Body is a Wonderland" plays on her CD player - over and over. Givers, Takers and choices. Sadness, elation, and joy. All rolled up in a bottle of Spanish white wine which will make her sleep for at least tonight. As John Mayer sings. Her candy lips. Her bubblegum tongue.

"Damn Baby, you frustrate me..."

She hopes that tomorrow will bring better things...She swims in a deep sea of blankets...

or "Dawn is so very tired that you are going to be subjected to some wierd ass post collecting various and sundry thought"

** I am TIRED. T-I-R-E-D. Four nights of wrangling my little hellhound alone have left me devoid of any humanity. Thank you Universe for showing me again why I will never, never have another baby. Sleep deprivation makes me MEAN. Rattler mean. Wolverine Mean. Cheney Mean.

** What the hell has happened to my ability to regulate my body temperature? I freeze, I sweat. I open windows, I turn up the heat. One week after my 36th birthday and I have lost control of my body. I assume bladder control will be next. Something to look forward to.

** Hey American Girl Company - Could you make the doll boots a little less complex? Asking a deeply sleep deprived mother to wrestle zip up go-go boots on a doll is like asking for a child abuse incident.

"Mommy! Don't twist her leg - It's hurting her! No! Put her boot on, Mommy...But don't twist her leg. Zip them up mommy. She can't have unzipped boots..."

28 minutes later, with one boot on foot, I consider ripping the whole leg off and beating my child about the head and neck with it.

Seeing as one of her lines on Thursday night was "Please don't throw a bitty shoe at me", in an attempt to guilt me into letting her into my bed, I reconsider. I will however refer her back to this line when her Racy Expose on her childhood with me hits in 2022. I feel it will make a smashing book title.

** Sensing the weakness in my force, she talks NON-STOP from the time she wakes up this morning until I push her through the ballet studio door at 11 a.m. and sprint away. She demands 6 pieces of bacon. Over and Over and Over and Over. When she emerges from ballet at 12, she asks if I am taking her out for lunch.
"LUNCH?", I choke out,"You had 6 pieces of bacon!" Apparently an hour of ballet completely burns off six pieces of bacon and two eggs...and juice...and milk.

I took all my anti-depressants, right?

** I have decided to go to Best Buy after Ballet and buy myself some CD's. Emily feels this is an excellent time to broach the "Lunch" topic again. I attempt to be reasonable, and begin to suggest choices.

"Fridays?"
"No."
"Smoky Bones?"
"No."
"Longhorn?"
"No."
"Uno's?"
"No."
"Bugaboo Creek"
"No!" (this one is said in a screechy voice - she's got "issues" with the moving animals)
"Honey there isn't much else around there - was there somewhere you had in mind?"

(I know - I walked right into this. But I am TIRED people. I have been beaten down. B-E-A-T-E-N.)

"How about Paddy's?
She wants Paddy's cause they have booths with televisions. I feel Meh about Paddy's on the best of days. She knows this.
"I don't want to go to Paddy's, Em"

The crying commences.

"I'm so HUN-GARY Mama, can't we go eat before you get your CD's- I'm Starrrrr-bing."
"Tell you what - I go and buy the CD's and then I'll get you MacDonald's and then we'll go home."
"Ok Mama, that's a great plan"

Why do I feel as if this was the plan the whole time?

** We enter Best Buy. I have a good idea what I want to find. I begin to head for the items. I find my CD's. We get in line. Nothing like a child to really suck the joy from shopping. As we stand in line, she begins her next line of attack.

"Can we listen to "High School Musical" in the car?"
"No, honey. Mama can't take High School Musical right now. I have quite a headache."
"PLEASE mama, PLEASE. Just a little bit of High School Musical?"
"No, Emily. I said No. How bout we listen to one of Mama's new CD's?"
She regards the contents of my basket. Bitterly.
"Which one?", she asks.
"How 'bout Gorillez?! Demon Days!" I hold the CD out for her perusal.

The older teen cashier is now grinning at me.

"NO! NO! I don't want to listen to that. I don't want Demon Days!"
"Emily, we are listening to Demon Days and you will like it. I am cranking this so loud it will make your teeth rattle. We are listening to this all the way home and if it ends, we'll play it again and again."

The cashier is now openly gaping and guffawing. I sign the debit slip.

"GOD! If the worst thing you say about me was that I forced you to listen to Demon Days, then I rank as the coolest freaking mother on earth!"

The teen cashier gives me a head nod and grin. My daughter mopes and stomps out of the store.

Save me, internet, save me. I have indeed created the tool of my destruction.

A Morality Tale

The story I am about to relate has no basis in truth. It is an entirely made up tale. No one in this saga lives on earth. I am quite literally pulling this story out of my ass. Any similarity to people living or dead is purely coincidental.

A long time ago, let's say about six years ago, there was a young woman who was in need of a new car. Her old car, a let's say 1989 Chevy Cavalier, had served her long and well. This car thrived on neglect. It was close, I am told, to 300,000 miles when the clutch finally burned out. This woman also had a child, lets say age 2, at that time. She was starting to worry about behemoth SUV's crushing her and her child in their little Cavalier.

It was decided in this kingdom that a new car was in order for this woman. A bigger car. A brand new car. After all, the man in this kingdom was pimping his Jaguar all over the place, and it was just Wrong for his woman and child to be tooling around in such an unspectacular car.

Now, truth be told, the woman wasn't that interested in the status symbol of the car. For her, they were merely things you drove to and from places. She rarely considered her car, except to fill it up with gas. The man in the kingdom tried, in vain, to get her into a Mercedes SUV - or maybe at least a Volvo. The woman stood fast. She worked at a place where she served families in poverty. It would be unseemly to roll up in a Mercedes SUV. No fancy cars.

The search dragged on. One car, too small and cramped. Another, too big and bulky. One she liked, but wanted a manual transmission. Finally, the man narrowed the choices down to one dealership, with which his family had long and intimate connections.

The woman was brought to test drive the narrowed choices. She was ambivalent. "Whatever", was her general attitude. The man announced he had made a choice. He had chosen the car. "All right", she said.

Now, the woman had always maintained, as previously noted, a fairly laissez-faire attitude about car things. Her jobs entailed specific functions, and these did not include thinking about the car. Ever. This was something that was Not. Her. Job.

Things were pretty good for the first year. Well, maybe not the very first day when she backed the new car into the Cavalier, giving the new car a big dent. The phrase "Can't give you anything nice" may have been spoken. But dents can be repaired.

No, the issue came at about year one of ownership. Upon driving home one night, she heard an odd clicking sound. "Hmmm", she thought, "that sounds different." She mentioned to the man that she heard a clicking noise. He announced he would investigate.

The woman was relaxing on the couch, pondering her existence when the man hauled ass into the house. He seemed distressed. "When was the last time you put oil in the car?", he fumed. The woman turned her rather perplexed face to the man.
"Oil? I don't put oil in the car. That's Not. My. Job.", she replied calmly. "Besides, no indicator light ever came on."

Oh, dear reader. The storm that broke was like none other seen prior to this moment in that kingdom. There were expletives, aplenty. There were accusations. Names may have been called. The woman maintained that oil was not. Her. Job. The man disagreed. Greatly.

The woman came away with the message, however, that she must now keep the car filled with oil - always. She was a little chafed at this, as she still felt that it was not intrinsically Her. Job.

Not a week went by for several months, without some comment being made regarding the checking of the holy oil by the man to the woman. Though the woman is generally a kind and patient creature, this was getting to be a bit fucking much already.

One night she was driving home, and needed to get gas. She knew that the oil question would be asked. Had she checked it? Had she replenished it? Had she made the requisite offerings at the Temple of oil? She grew...Angry. This thought may have crossed her mind.

"I will fill this car with so much fucking oil, I may never have to check it again."

She then may have dumped 4 quarts of some of oil into the car. She may have felt very self satisfied. "Yes, you bossy son of a bitch, I DID check the oil - and there's PLENTY!!!!"

She was not aware of the potential issues which she had just brought down upon her car. Until about two weeks later. The man and the woman and the child were driving home from a trip. The man noticed some smoking from under the hood. He was puzzled. He pulled over and looked under the hood. Nothing seemed terribly amiss. There was some errant oil. It must be burning off.

The woman held her tongue. She did not mention the massive amount of oil which may have been placed into the car. By her. She felt it would all sort itself out.

Alas, the real tragedy did not occur until perhaps year 3, when the woman was driving home on an interstate from a work assignment. Ungodly clanking and noises began to come from under the hood. She called the man on her cell phone and began screaming "CAN YOU HEAR THIS FUCKING NOISE????"

Oh yes. Indeed he could hear it. The woman got back to her office and the car was taken to the dealership. Where it was found that it needed a whole new engine. The engine had mysteriously completely blown. Something about "Sludge" was mentioned.

The woman now knew that she could never, never mentioned the overfilling of oil. She also wrote the check for the 3,000 dollars for the new engine, although she cringed, cause that's some shoes right there. The man raged. He cursed the car gods. He threatened lawsuits to be brought on the corporation who manufactured such a faulty product. But the woman wisely maintained her silence. She knew her own temper had caused this downfall. Hubris, if you will.

From that day on, the man takes the car for oil changes every three thousand miles. Faithfully. Cause it is now known by all that the oil is Not. Her. Job.

In addition to the whole "shoe whore" issue, there's something else I need to tell you...

I love video games. Really love video games.

I suppose it started when the ColecoVision entered our home in the early 80's. Then the Atari. Then the Nintendo. Which became the Super Nintendo, and then the Nintendo 64, with a gameboy thrown in the middle there and now, here is my little purple crackpipe- The Gamecube.

Some may argue for the other systems available, but I am a hardcore Zelda fan, so no other system will do. Me and Link have been together since his first scrawny pixalated ass hit Hyrule. Some love Mario. Meh. He's OK. But Link, with his little elfin ears and Ocarina of Time? Come to me, Lov-ah. The Masks? The Wind Waker, when he became a small anime character? The Four Swords where he was cloned into Four Links?

Truth be told, other lov-ah's have entered onto Links once exclusive domain. The Sims (2), for instance, are in heavy rotation these days. They took over for Animal Crossing which held me captive for 6 months. And Harvest Moon 2? Could I run from the Christmas tree faster, clutching my copy, to lock myself in my bedroom for hours of uninterrupted virtual farming?

"But Mommy, it's time for Christmas dinner!"

"I'll be out once I harvest this crop of tomatoes! And milk the cows! Start without me!"

Dark Alliance held me for a bit. I liked killing the zombies. As did Final Fantasy - cool things to kill - magic spells to learn. Woooo-Hoooo!

To my motherly credit, I try to play only after child is in bed. That being said, I will play from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m., when I realize Daily Show is coming on. I also try not to get "shooter" games - where I kill real virtual people. You know, I'm cool with slaying a troll or flaming bat, but a pimp from New York? Uh. No thanks.

There are certain "people" in the house, who detest the video games. Said person would throw them all away, if he/she could. This person also doesn't know the difference between Saruman and Sauron, so why should I listen to them?

Now leave me alone. I have some Sims to control for I am their lord, and they shall obey.

De-evolution of cuddling

A long time ago, when the earth was young, I liked to cuddle. You know, post coitus cuddling and rubbing. Chatting, conversing. Going to bed at the same time cuddling.

Me: "That was so great honey- Can I do anything else for you?"

No, that was a little joke. The truth is I DID like it. When my man went to bed...dammit, so did I. Apparently I thought there was a cosmic law which said
"If thou livest together, thou must go to bed at the same time, leaving optimal awake time for sex."

Now I growl at anyone who crosses the line onto my side of the bed. You think I joke? I make a DMZ line with my body pillow, which indicates "NO CROSSING ALLOWED."

The signs were there all along. One of our first "weekends" together, I was sleepy and said "Get on your side of the bed" to Terrance. These words are manna from heaven to him. He sputtered, "You mean you don't want to cuddle?"
"No", I mumbled, "I want to sleep."

We had just started dating, and I wasn't sure it was going anywhere, so I felt free to fly my flag of "no touching while sleeping".

When I was pregnant, my wrath was swift and mighty. There lives in our history a rather "infamous" night when he disturbed my complex pillow arrangement. Hell hath no fury like a six month pregnant woman whose pillows have been altered. Let's just say that someone left the bedroom in quite a hurry.

After having Emily, the continual touching was KEEL-ING me. She demanded to be held ALL THE TIME. If she didn't have a boob in the mouth, then she would only sleep on your belly. As a new nursing mom, my mobility was limited anyway, cause how do you get these things to work with the right latch on and holds and is she getting anything? I only lasted 2 weeks before I started pumping so a bottle could be given at least once a day. I needed a break from the touching.

The worst night came when she was 4 months or so. It was midnight. Saturday. She is nursing and I am sitting in bed, watching TV. Terrance is dead asleep beside me, his leg thrown over mine. The cat, Keillor, is asleep on my foot. There is not a space on my body which I can claim as my own. I fight the urge to run screaming from the room to lock my self in a deprivation chamber. I can only imagine that the look on my face was pure evil. I muttered, "If one more fucking thing touches me, I will lose my fucking mind." I also muttered, "I hate you, you miserable son of a bitch" at Terrance who didn't seem to have any problem falling asleep.

Yeah, maybe it was a little of the depression talking, but some was the touching.

So, what does fate deign to give me? A child with Sensory Integration Dysfunction - Sensory Seeking. Emily CRAVES pressure and touch. Here I am, running from too much touching, here she is Touching me. I suspect it is life's little joke to give me a child who is the exact opposite of me - but alike enough to be a bad ass.

(she just ran in here to throw her arms around my neck - squeeze my neck until circulation is cut off, kiss and then run away)

And how do I wake up nearly every morning? With Emily laying on my back - legs thrown over me, burrowed under the body pillow. Terrance gave up long ago. He sleeps on the futon by himself almost every night. I am smashed into a corner of the bed, arms and legs akimbo, vainly gripping onto my body pillow to give me some space. For eight years this month, I have been doing this unholy dance with my daughter. I love her, but GOD!

Maybe it's my age. Maybe it's motherhood. But for the love of all that is sacred, stay your ass on your side of the bed.*

8 days of vacation = 489 pounds of paper.

Will she get the last big project done before she departs? Will we find her crumbled body down with her shoes, weeping as the spiders carry her away?

A pointless aside:
I work in a converted mental institution – I know, right – THE IRONY! – and in the spring, large and vicious looking spiders appear from the vents – so you’ll be typing along and them BAM – Monsieur Arachnidis Bloodthirstyus is in the middle of your computer screen. Looking at you will all 8 complex eyeballs. This scares the shit out of me, and I will often leap up – shrieking. So this time of year, I carefully do a spider scan every few hours to apprise myself of their location and potential migratory habits. Rats? No problem. Snakes? I handled snakes for a whole summer at a nature camp – Spiders? We do best on a “You stay on your side of the room and I’ll stay on mine” arrangement. My brother tells me that I have a very specific “spider scream”, which alerted all in the vicinity to the danger. Perhaps in my Jungian collective unconscious, I was eaten by a swarm of spiders.

All these folders are perfect places for the bastards to hide. Nicely played, spider Karma. Well done.

P.S. I braided that wool rug on the floor. Myself – with my HANDS! A mean Quaker taught me. I think she wanted to see me cry.

Back for more? I knew you would be!

I have been around women of non-white ethnicities for a long time now. One thing that never fails to amaze and please me - is their collective ease with their bodies and body type. Whereas white women get collectively mind-fucked about their weight, their ass, their boobs - EVERYTHING - Black and Latina women dare you to say something. And I mean that in a very literal sense. Dare you. Go ahead, try.

I have seen large gorgeous Latina women wearing bikini's that I wouldn't have dared wear on my skinniest day EVER when I was 7. My black sister in laws have tried to tempt me into wearing outfits that my whiteness just couldn't get past. I know my white limits - I cannot pimp certain styles for my sheer whiteness gets in the way.

This one, however, was special -

She was standing next to the one I like to think of as my "Britney Spears of the future" - who was screaming "Gary! GARY JUNIOR - YOU GET OVER HERE RIGHT NOW -BEFORE I HAVE TO BUST YOUR ASS!", which really sets the tone for a day of family fun.

Plus, the belly - paired with the belly ring AND the bedazzled tube top? And discount Tattoo? Good lord.

Please folks. I speak as a fan of the tattoo's. I desperately want a tattoo of my own. I am waiting for a certain man to lose his eyesight so I can run off and get all the Tattoo's of my dreams. I like well crafted works of body art. Deciding to get one is not the time to go the discount route. Spend the money. Please. I beg you.

The long term injestion of lead can be the only reason for this outfit.

Did I miss the memo about wearing the colored bras with little tops? Cause I can't make sense of this "trend" - of which I saw a god-awful amount. Anyone? Anyone?

DEAR GOD - JERRY GARCIA IS ALIVE AND IN THE MAGIC KINGDOM!!!

This one speaks for itself. As if to say "Fuck you Disney, which I will demonstrate by purchasing a 60 dollar ticket and spending the day in your fanstasy world- Facists."

I wanted to smack this woman for allowing this dude to Wear this shirt. Can you imagine walking around all day with this guy by your side? Puh-lease. Do I need to mention the "camo" shorts? No man looks good in flip flops. Not even the gay men can really pull it off. You've all been warned.

She did not read my "ode to arm fat", I suspect - nor it's cousin "In praise of back fat". Black can't be THAT slimming - come on.

Now I generally leave the sisters alone, but the denim vest? THE DENIM VEST! My eyes, my eyes!

I have heretofore declared my like of the body art. But the back tattoo's time has come and gone. This will not be cute on a 45 year old mother. She generally looks like she lost a fight with a pack of wild dingos.

This woman struck as the star of a new feature film "Weekend with Gloria" - You know the movie where one of the leads is a corpse? She looked about as animated.

And finally. Ladies, before wearing your shoes out and about - let's remove the tags, shall we? Nothing says "Desperate Divorcee" like a denim mini skirt shorter than your daughters and these platforms from "Journeys" - which I know cause you've got your cootch in my face with these sandals. Note my ultra cool Birkenstock to the side(Yes, it's a real birkenstock - my Vermonter privledges would Sooooo get revoked for wearing the faux Birki's)

And so endeth the fashion faux pas of Disney. I hope you have enjoyed it. There were some others which were spectacular - but as I noted, I didn't want to get shived - or arrested.

Let's just say THANK GOD I have these photos to fall back on, for my brain is toast. Melba Toast. Rye Melba Toast. Stale Rye Melba Toast which has sat out in the sun to be pecked at by various roadside creatures. Or in other words, I saw my therapist today. The "witty" is a bit scarce.

So here it is - The First of the series, taken at Universal Studios. I missed some truly heinous outfits and shoes, as it is hard to point your camera at someone, focus in, have the flash go off and remain "anonymous". They start to wonder what your up to... Also, badly dressed tourists move FAST. So, I had to either time it perfectly, or stalk them through the parks. However, I'd like to give props to the lady with the lace up her calf heels and shimmery hot pants. You moved too fast for me to photograph, but I admire your panache in that outfit in 90+ degree weather. And you, woman in line for the Jaws ride wearing the black leather platform (3 inches) slides. Finally, I salute you, young black woman, decked out in all black with the pink suede lace up Boot/Sneaker combo. As you hobbled by me at the end of the day, I felt your pain.

Now let me preface all of this by saying - I am a curvy woman. I have never been skinny...Ever. I do not care if someone has a weight issue. These are purely taste issues.

Sitting outside the Mummy ride - which was too scarey for Emily - we saw these:

Photo One: Apparently someone said that a lime green tank top and see through grey stretch bike shorts were an excellent idea. Paired with the plastic pink flip flops? Heavenly. The child was running behind her, in embarassment, I can only assume.

Photo 2:Here I am sitting on a curb, minding my business when this lady steps in front of me with her roll of fat in my face. Uncovered roll of fat! Topped with a too tight belly shirt AND a "use a tie as a belt fashion", which only looks good on females who are size 2. May I add that it was 97 degrees. Why the long black pants? Another male child is hiding on his mothers side, hoping not to be noticed.

This next one came as a bit of suprise. We were exiting the park, hot, dehydrated, exhausted and there she was - right in front of me, begging to be photographed...
I suspect it is the interplay between the black (tube top) outfit, the red bra straps and the red "tied around the waist" jacket. This outfit says "I really dug Madonna in 1982". But the brown sandals? An unexpected choice.

When I think of walking 87 miles during any given day in a hot theme park, I think "I'd like to wear these heels and blue jeans" - You?

And then she called a friend who said "Great Idea - I'll wear mine too!"

And then SHE called her heavily tanned friend who said "I have some silver wedges I'd like to wear - Can I come too?

Here endeth day one. Tomorrow - Animal Kingdom.
