I heart my in-laws

Tuesday, July 25, 2006

Yes, I am still in Detroit. I have snuck away to a Borders to get internet access, cause there is no wireless in my in-laws house and the dial up is Keeeeeeellllling me.

And while I am hiding away from humanity, I reflect on how much I love the women who are my collective in-laws.

For while I married into the family...I am now one of them. It does not matter if I ever divorce Terrance. I am still one of the family. In fact, my mother in law gave me a lengthy talk about how regardless of my marital status to her son, I am her daughter. I am welcome in her home. If I ever leave and re-marry - the new spouse is welcome in her home.

And it's true. I know this because I watch her three ex-husbands visit her and her husband. I have met all the children from all the marriages. I see ex-boyfriends and girlfriends come and have dinner.

So while this family exhausts introvert me, I am conforted by the knowledge that I am one of them. I will never be alone, for the women will be there behind me - no matter what.

How wonderful to have in-laws like that. I really dislike my in-laws and wouldn't be surprised if they one day disown me WHILE still married to their son.

I never blog about it, but perhaps I'll send something in to TWC or HBM Basement.

Wish I had in-laws like yours. That is awesome.

I'm with Dawn, here. Every time my mother in law calls to see if she can take my 1 yr old son for the night I love her even more. But I especially love my own Mother for taking said son every Wednesday night. It's like a piece of paradise in the middle of the week.

PS - tomorrow is Wednesday - I get to be an adult again. An adult with a sex life. WhooHoo!

I love your MIL.

Wish I had one just like her...

That is so cool. Kind of reminds me of the Ruth and Naomi story from the Bible, which always gets me. I love my inlaws, too, esp. my mom-in-law. Proof: I have been staying in her home for nearly a month now and we are still on good terms. She is so supportive of me as her grandson's mother, and in general. I think we who have decent in-laws are very lucky. I think of my old boyfriend of 6 years and his mom and say to myself "thank god that woman is not my MIL!" (And while I'm giving props, I have to give a shout out to my own mom, who is the rockinest, kid-watching, not-butting-in mom I personally know.)

Ah, this non-emergency kid-watching by relatives some of you speak of-- it sounds-- fabulous. Fantabulous. Fantasical, like, from a fairy story.

*sigh*

At least our in-laws let us hang out in their air conditioning when we had no power this weekend.

I meant FANTASTICAL not fantasical. But, you get the idea.

Ditto Madge, but with a twist. I wish I had a MIL who made me want to be part of her family, no matter what.

(Meaning that I'm welcome, but I'm not sure that I want to be.)

That is so great that your MIL thinks of you as her daughter. Mine thought I was "abrasive" and "too outspoken".

See you in 48 hours.

Wow...
That was a refreshing read...
and it gives me hope for humanity...
No hope for my in laws as they would sell anyone down the river in a handbasket...
I always hoped for that...
So,instead I sigh, and am glad for you...and your entire family as that is what family is all about...

That's awesome. I don't even get that from my blood relatives.

(Not that I'm all that sure I want it...)

That must feel nice. My MIL doesn't butt in- but she also shows no concern over my family whatsoever. She doesn't ask how her grandson is, she doesn't call her son...sigh.
Hug you MIL extra hard. Tell her how appreciated she is by the internets who wish they had someone like her...
